🌍 Earth Day with Du & Berry: Woven with Love, Worn with Purpose

Every April 22nd, Earth Day reminds us to reflect on how our choices shape the planet. At Du & Berry, it’s more than a day, it’s part of who we are. We believe the process matters just as much as the piece itself. Every fiber we source and every garment we hand-weave is an intentional step toward slowing down, honoring tradition, and creating clothing that feels good for you and the planet.

One of a Kind, From Loom to Life

Every Du & Berry piece begins with our founder, Lin Du, hand-weaving each garment with care and intention. Using traditional loom techniques, Lin transforms cashmere, mohair, and alpaca into wearable works of art, with zero fabric waste.

The one of a kind pieces, like the Electronic Heart Mini Dress and Handcrafted Turtleneck Top, are living proof that craftsmanship and sustainability can (and should) coexist. No two pieces, or stories, are ever the same.

Why the Fibers We Use Matter

Sustainability starts with smart material choices. We select fibers for their quality, longevity, and low environmental impact:

  • Alpaca: Soft, durable, low-water footprint, and naturally hypoallergenic.

  • Mohair: Ethically sourced for strength and shine from humane farms.

  • Cashmere: Responsibly sourced through regenerative grazing and strict animal welfare.

  • Silk: Renewable, naturally dyed, and hand-reeled to support traditional craft.

  • Wool: Breathable, biodegradable, and always mulesing-free.

A Fashion Future We Believe In

This Earth Day, we're not just celebrating what we create but how we create it. Every Du & Berry piece is part of a slower, more intentional approach to fashion. It's a quiet stand against fast, disposable trends and a commitment to honoring the people, processes, and planet that make true craftsmanship possible.

We believe the future of fashion is handmade, mindful, and human. For us, sustainability isn’t a trend; it’s the foundation we build daily.

This Earth Day, and every day after, we invite you to choose pieces woven with purpose, and to wear what truly matters.

Resources We Love (That we would recommend to check out):

Building a sustainable wardrobe can feel overwhelming, so we're sharing a few favorite spots that celebrate creativity, community, and care for the planet:

  • FABSCRAP (Brooklyn, NY): A nonprofit giving leftover textiles a second life for makers of all kinds.

  • Brooklyn General Store (Brooklyn, NY): An independent shop keeping handmade traditions alive with fabrics, yarns, and workshops.

  • Downtown Yarns (East Village, NY): A cozy community hub for fiber arts, offering classes and events.

  • Thistle Creative Reuse (Denton, TX): A women owned store with secondhand craft materials ready for new life.

  • SCRAP (San Francisco, CA): A nonprofit turning donated materials into sustainable art supplies.

We invite you to discover our collection of environmentally considerate garments at Du & Berry. Each piece is thoughtfully crafted with purpose, reflecting our commitment to both our clientele and the environment.

Let us collectively embrace fashion that truly matters for the health of our planet, the well being of its inhabitants, and the promise of a more sustainable future. 🌏✨
